How does albinism differ from the other inherited leukodermas? The common feature of vitiligo, piebaldism, and the rarer leukoderma syndromes is a decrease or total absence of epidermal melanocytes. By comparison, patients with albinism have a normal epidermal melanocyte number, but the melanocytes synthesize inadequate amounts of melanin. |
