Are any diseases associated with dermatomyositis?

Adults with dermatomyositis have been reported to have a variety of malignancies that sometimes follow a clinical course of exacerbation and remission in concert with the dermatomyositis. Screening with a careful history, physical examination and age appropriate laboratory screening tests is recommended in adult patients with dermatomyositis. Female patients should be carefully screened for ovarian cancer.
