Describe the bullous eruption of SLE. This rare blistering eruption has been described primarily in patients with established SLE. The histopathologic findings are quite different from those of other forms of cutaneous LE. Biopsies demonstrate a separation of the epidermis from the dermis and a neutrophil-rich inflammatory cell infiltrate. Antibodies to type VII collagen, a component of anchoring fibrils (see Chapter 1), have been described in some patients with the bullous eruption of SLE. It has been proposed, but not proven, that these antibodies are involved in the pathogenesis of this disease. |
