Can pruritus be a sign of malignancy? Generalized pruritus without skin lesions has been reported as a symptom of internal malignancy. Pruritus is reported as an initial symptom of Hodgkin’s disease in 5% to 10% of patients and in 3% of those with non–Hodgkin’s lymphoma. The relationship of this symptom to visceral solid cancers is far less clear. Lober CW: Pruritis and malignancy, Clin Dermatol 11:125–128, 1993. |
