How common are cutaneous lesions in aspergillosis? Aspergillus species are ubiquitous saprophytes in the air, soil, and decaying vegetation. It is primarily a respiratory pathogen, with the lungs and sinuses as the major sites of infection. Disseminated disease occurs in 30% of aspergillosis cases, and cutaneous lesions develop in fewer than 11%. There are several documented reports of primary invasive skin infections occurring in neutropenic patients associated with intravenous catheters and adhesive tape contaminated with spores. |
