Can other diseases mimic onychomycosis? Yes. Psoriasis, Reiter’s disease, lichen planus, pachyonychia congenita, Darier’s disease, and Norwegian scabies are some of the diseases that can resemble onychomycosis. For this reason, the diagnosis should be established by either a KOH examination or culture before beginning prolonged and often expensive therapies to eradicate the infection. |
