Name the three types of tinea pedis. Which dermatophyte is most commonly associated with each? The three types of tinea pedis are interdigital infection, moccasin-type infection, and vesiculobullous or inflammatory infection. Interdigital infections present as scaling, maceration, fissuring, or erythema of the webspaces between the toes. This infection is usually associated with Trichophyton rubrum or T. mentagrophytes. Moccasin-type tinea pedis presents as generalized scaling and hyperkeratosis of the plantar surface of the foot. This form of infection is frequently associated with nail involvement. Moccasin-type tinea pedis is typically caused by T. rubrum. The inflammatory or vesiculobullous type will cause a vesicular eruption on the arch or side of the foot and is most often caused by T. mentagrophytes. |
