Is lupus vulgaris related to lupus erythematosus or lupus pernio? No. Lupus erythematosus is an autoimmune connective tissue disease. Lupus pernio is a cutaneous manifestation of sarcoidosis that presents as a violaceous patch on the face. Lupus vulgaris is a form of cutaneous tuberculosis. The term lupus is used to depict erosion as if “gnawed by a wolf.” Vulgaris means common or ordinary. Both of these terms are used in a variety of unrelated diseases. |
