What laboratory tests are used to diagnose Mycobacterium tuberculosis?

Mycobacterium tuberculosis can be diagnosed using acid-fast bacilli (AFB) stains, culture, polymerase chain reaction (PCR), or interferon-gamma release assay (IGRA). Diagnosis of cutaneous tuberculosis is challenging and requires the correlation of clinical findings with diagnostic testing.
