Is heatstroke considered a dermatologic emergency? Although heatstroke is not typically considered a “dermatologic problem,” it does have characteristic skin findings that are helpful in making a quick diagnosis. In a heatstroke victim, the skin is erythematous, hot, and dry. These findings in association with unconsciousness should alert one to the diagnosis. Therapy needs to be instituted promptly to prevent death or severe CNS damage. |
