Are there any characteristic histopathologic features of pancreatic fat necrosis?

The changes are rather unique and include necrosis of the fat with formation of lipocyte remnants with thick, shadowy walls (“ghost cells”) and pools of basophilic material that represent saponification of fat by calcium salts.
