Are certain vehicles preferred for particular types of lesions or anatomic sites? Ointments work best on chronic, thickened skin lesions and should be avoided when the dermatosis is acute, vesicular, and weeping. Solutions, gels, sprays, or foams are recommended for dermatoses in hairy areas. Creams or lotions are best for intertriginous locations. Gels and sprays can also be used to treat inflammatory lesions on mucosal surfaces. |
