There are three main categories of skin disease associated with renal diseases:
- Cutaneous manifestations of renal failure; skin changes in nearly all patients
- Systemic diseases with prominent renal and cutaneous manifestations (e.g., Henoch-Schönlein purpura)
- Diseases affecting the kidney in which skin biopsy may be helpful in making the diagnosis, even when cutaneous findings are not prominent (e.g., primary systemic amyloidosis)
