How is the subcutis organized? The subcutis, or subcutaneous fat, is arranged into distinct fat lobules, which are divided by fibrous septae composed primarily of collagen. Blood vessels, nerves, and lymphatics are also found in the fibrous septae. In addition to its role as a caloric reserve, the subcutaneous fat serves as a heat insulator and shock absorber. |
