Is loss of cutaneous sensation very serious?

The importance of skin innervation is best illustrated by diseases that destroy cutaneous nerves. The archetypical disease is Hansen’s disease (leprosy). This disease attacks and destroys cutaneous nerves, resulting in severe mutilation of the extremities after years of unperceived trauma.
