Corticosteroids

Potent topical steroids on their own are rarely used to treat plaque psoriasis in the UK. In other countries, topical steroids may be more common place. The rationale for not making use of them extensively is the increased chance of rebound and the potential for triggering an episode of GPP. This being said, mild to moderate steroids are commonly used to treat psoriasis in flexural areas, the face and genitalia, as few other products are licensed for treatment in these areas. As shown in Table 8.3, steroids are also used to treat scalp psoriasis.
